theatre jam
Theatre jam is an experimental genre that combines specific theatrical training: object theatre and the form of a music jam.
This is the laboratory of what is called object theatre - a theatre, in which the main thing on the stage is not a person, but an object, a light, a music landscape - all together.
Participants are encouraged to bring along any music instruments and a few important for them objects, whether it's an item filled with memories or a interesting object found by chance - the main condition is the will to tell a story about them.
Together with participants we create improvisational theatre performances being grown up from the stories of objects they brought with.
It has something to do with a montage - of objects on the stage and the actor's body, the body and light, light and live sound. By revealing the hidden properties of objects, interacting with them, participants extract new meanings from them, the surrounding space, and one's own body, observing how a performative story unfolds before one's eyes, liberated from direct associations.
This is the video representing theatre jam - live in St. Petersburg, Russia, 2024. Participants were encouraged to create a community of objects and were improvising on the topic of coming back in time.
And that is another part of theatre jam - Zheleznogorsk, Russia, 2023, Transformation festival. The participants were 3 girls different age and life background. The topic for improvisation was "home or house".
I run this laboratory in different cities for participants with different theatre background and I'm open for invitations. Each time object theatre method is really involving for the audience to turn on the creative mode and forget about fear of the stage. Moreover, this method allows to set improvisational performances to see the result at once.
