bitština

bitština (from serbian 'bit+suština' - essence/being) is a long-term performative project where artist, using magical methods, gets into trance, turns into a being.

"Loosing personality I see what's left when all the human-like and social attributes are gone, I free myself from behavior patterns. I also investigate how people react on an alien, different being. I first performed it at Pride Belgrade 2023. It is about being free from gender binary definitions, being free from expectations for a woman, being even be from what is called a human. Rethinking what personality is, what makes me a human being, I create for myself a character somewhere in between of all the forms of life."

When I discovered for myself @genamarvin performances I was completely astonished and realised it truly magical. My first idea was to write an article about the deep link within state of a witch and such a form of being (still very rational person), my first feeling was to try it myself.

Pride was a perfect place and time for it. My costume was mostly cellophane and high heels, it was also very important for me to hide my face, to paint a face of some creature that wouldn’t be me.

From that time girls started to roll me with cellophane and do makeup on me I was feeling less and less the desire to speak human language. I felt a freedom to dispose my body in the space that way it tells me to. Started to feel the inner permission to look strange, even ugly. From magical point of view I stopped to control the constant process of showing my personality to the world, I actually wasn’t me. I didn’t talk, wasn’t social polite, wasn’t trying to make the right impression. Still, I found some really important and basic parts of myself within that experience. I still was shy, trying to hide myself behind the flower, still was curious, i still was gentle, I still was smiling - sometimes.

Inside the ritual, especially within the Babalon tradition, you have to give up on your personality, you state that you have no age, no name, no gender, no nationality, no nothing. You name it. This lack gives you the inner permission to go through the gap between human and eternal, giant, magic.

bitština appears sometimes at exhibitions or festivals, concerts or public meetings. It is important for artist to give bitština the time and space to exist, to share the body.
